Ah! The joys of reading articles in western newspapers, written by “Arab” journalists who assess our situation with their “find the homo” glasses.
On the 28th of august, I received an email which linked me to an article posted in the Guardian, written by Diamond Walid and titled “Gay, straight, or just Lebanese?”
To cut things short, [...]

Having watched the first 6 episodes of The Real L Word (yes, I do know reviews are usually written after the first one, but hey, it’s summertime), I stand at a crossroad, incapable to decide between liking or disliking the show. On the one hand, it is quite shallow and the “real” women do not [...]

Despite great progress in the neurosciences, our understanding of the determinants of sexual orientation remains incomplete. The nature versus nurture debate is indeed too simplistic as an approach. Genetics and heredity do seem to play a role, but the environment also induces palpable physical alterations in the brain known as plastic changes (evident for example [...]

A few months ago, I was chatting with my ex about my upcoming trip to Italy to participate in a seminar at the end of June. She immediately told me that she was planning to take part in the National Gay Pride Parade in Napoli on the 26th of June with a group of her [...]

A satisfaire.

Another May 17, another IDAHO. Five years now I have been celebrating the International Day Against Homophobia in Beirut. My memory of each passing event is become less and less distinct – with the exception of my first event in 2006. In 2007, I remember we went to Masrah Al Madina for some panels on [...]

We’ve all faced homophobia at one point or another. We’ve all had homophobic friends, parents or acquaintances who, every now and then, throw in a couple of homophobic comments. Homophobia comes in different forms, and all of them hurt. But the worst form of them all, in my opinion, is homophobia that comes from the [...]
