months, we’ve seen a lot of media interest in
Bekhsoos, and a continuing media interest in
Lebanese homosexuality in general. I’ve worked in the
media departments of a few NGOs throughout my career,
and I know how difficult it is to get media attention
for many worthy social campaigns. However, when it comes
to LGBT issues, media outlets just flock to you.

I'm such a bad dyke.
Not only am I against gay marriage and gays joining the
army, but as it turns out, I am against gay pride. Not
only for the obvious reasons - the domineering divas and
muscle boys fighting for limelight or scoping for ass,
the alarming number of corporate sponsorships, the cheap
necklaces and the inevitable eurotrash house music. The
women getting buried underneath it all...

By the looks of this magazine, for example, it looks
like we’re a movement that’s mostly in immaculate
English. And who can blame us, when English seems to
offer us the space for expression that Arabic has denied
us, when our own language feels like it has abandoned
its connections to women and our bodies and our
sexualities?

The next time
somebody tells you that homosexuality is unnatural, tell
them that 1500 animal species practice homosexuality.
Some, like dwarf chimpanzees, are bisexual. Some, like
lions for instance, do it to "ensure loyalty." Some have
fleeting heterosexual relationships but long lasting
homosexual ones, like dolphins and killer whales.
