Fellow humans of all
kinds,
You have now laid your eyes upon the first few
introductory words of a pioneer movement in the Arab
world: an Arab LBTQ women’s magazine.
Yes, we decided to create a magazine to show ourselves,
to show we exist as more than pornographic creatures, to
show that we are beings who lead lives just like those
of any of the purportedly “normal” others within our
societies and communities, but most of all, to spread
awareness, to reach out to members of our own community,
to create networks of support, to make it known that
every LBTQ individual out there is NOT alone. Thus,
Bekhsoos was born.
You might be wondering why the word “bekhsoos” was
chosen as a title. Roughly translated to English, the
word means “concerning.” If I am not mistaken, the use
of this word without a continuing idea sprouted within
the gay community, and then spread. So, we have dibs on
it as LGBTQ. :) And given that each issue will have a
“focus topic” and a whole segment dedicated it to it,
you will find a “sign” stating that issue hung on the
title; for example, in this issue, it’s “Bekhsoos el
Homophobia” (“Concerning Homophobia”). Look out for the
different topics in the coming issues. If you’re
interested in submitting a topic, or in becoming a
contributor or member of staff, please contact me on
editor@bekhsoos.com.
Anonymity is respected, and if you would like to
contribute from home, that is possible.
We’re glad you landed on this page, and this is targeted
at you, no matter who you are. So go ahead, and start
exploring the “pages” of this magazine. All your
comments, queries, and suggestions are welcome.
Sincerely,
The Editor |
